November bought our Bendigo Breakfast series for the first time to the iconic Hogan’s at Wellington Point. I am sure they need zero introduction and I would think to be one of our longest standing family businesses, with a 50 years history. Our members and friends enjoyed the recently renovated second level of the hotel, which I can almost confidently say has one of the best views on the Redland’s Coast!

Our speakers addressed the industry sector of manufacturing, which has been identified within the state government’s Regional Skills Investment Strategy (RSIS) as a target industry, and is a focus for the Redland City Council who are facilitating the RSIS in our region to ensure that manufacturing becomes and remains a prosperous industry within our local economy.

It is important to me (and the entire committee) that the Chamber of Commerce is more than just holding regular events for networking opportunities. Yes, networking is important for so many reasons but the Chamber has the opportunity through our events to connect our business community, not just to one another, but to the key stakeholders within industry bodies and government to ensure they are getting the support they need to be as successful as possible!

I have personally sat down in the past month with local government economic development officers and state government Department of Education, Department of Employment, Small Business and Training, along with MP’s for Redlands and the federal minister for Environment. I would like to ensure that we are not only being a voice for our businesses but also gathering as much information from these meetings to give back to members through our events, social media and newsletters.

I know sometimes an inbox can be very overwhelming, I myself receive in excess of 200 emails per day to attend too. I however encourage you to look at the Chambers communications as an important resource to your business and really read the information we are giving. There are so many initiatives that are being given to our region to better our economy, we as business owners need to engage to ensure we are continued to be supported.
